About Suit Shower and Shave

ABOUT US

In 2018 the need for basic human services couldn’t be any clearer. The idea of a concierge service for those most in need stemming from a tenured professional in human services was the inspiration of SSS. Suit Shower & Shave (SSS) recognized that access to free quality clothing was a barrier to many homeless men and their children experienced while living in the local shelters. Beginning as simply donating shoes directly from my vehicle at red lights to individuals (men) in need, SSS has realized the importance of basic human needs of clothing (Suit), shelter/(Shower), and a haircut (shave).

In 2019 SSS continued donating and locating areas with high homeless populations in order to serve them at the most basic levels. Northern Virginia. The existing goal is to continue to serve the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas, eventually serving all over the U.S. for those vulnerable and at-risk men and children in the surrounding and adverse communities.

Suit Shower & Shave’s mission is to support men and children in crisis, while building their confidence and self-esteem, by providing great quality clothing, haircuts, and shelter (Showers) at no cost, assisted by caring and committed volunteers who offer personalized service and interaction.

SSS’s mission is more than clothing/hygienic needs, our commitment is to provide personalized uplifting interactions in a unique seamless environment, focused on helping men arrive at a level of self-confidence that enables them to improve their lives and achieve independence. The increased self-esteem that comes from securing and maintaining employment not only helps individual men, but contributes to stable families, which, in turn, improves to the viability and safety of our communities.

Our Services

Suit, Shower & Shave provides individuals most in need with clothing, shelter, haircuts and more. We operate the second Saturday of each month or by appointment. Clients are qualified/referred by their case managers. Our clients leave standing much straighter and prouder than when they walk in.

The foundation of everything we do is that every man and deserves the basics in life. We are able to provide a little light and fun in otherwise tough situations. Many clients have only the clothing on their backs…we remedy this! Through generous donations/contributions we make sure these men and children have what they need to reclaim their place in society.

Who We Serve

Our concierge services set us apart from any other “clothing closet” or basic needs services in the area. Our service delivery will be conducted in aspiring and safe locations that will effectively serve our clientele, such as hotels, churches, and pop-up locations. Positive attitudes along with providing messages of inspiration, strength and employment services will empower our clients to contribute to their families and society. The clients are styled by volunteers allowing clients to see an outfit put together for an interview or work.

Our volunteers also make the space welcoming and inviting to the clients. Volunteers are trained to uphold our values which make the clients feel like they are being dressed by a tailor rather than just receiving donated clothing.

Unlike some career focused clothing providers, we also provide casual clothing as a majority of the men served only need “career apparel” for the interviews and many work or seek work in retail, hospitality and service industries. We serve men in need and those facing adversities making an honest living due to a combination of poor choice and unfortunate circumstances.

We also provide for male youth, as a warm coat, shoes that fit and a wardrobe of school clothing help them put their best foot forward every day. By making them feel comfortable and confident in the classroom, they are better able to focus on their studies and fit in with their peers.

We partner with close to 200 Referral Agency Partners who share a common mission of serving their communities by providing services that are connected through client referrals. We are proud to be recognized as valuable resource partner to these Referral Agency Partners which includes shelters, transitional and permanent supportive housing programs, medical facilities, group homes, schools, government agencies and faith-based organizations all who send their eligible clients and residents to SSS through our secured online referral registration system by the client’s case manager or social worker.

What is Human Services?

For those who are unfamiliar with the term many different images and ideas arise when they hear the term Human Services. So then what is Human Services? The field of Human Services is vast and has many varying definitions, however it can be summed up as the interdisciplinary practice of servicing your fellow human beings, whether individuals or groups such as families or communities in order to alleviate stress and change to help them function at their highest capacity. There are many professions which fall under the umbrella of the Human Services field. They range from medical service providers such as nurses, to Child Welfare Case Workers, Psychologists and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) and many more. The field of Human Services is one that is focused on helping one’s fellow Human Beings overcome adversity through strength-based approaches that empower the recipients to make positive life choices that allow them to reach their full potential. This model is one that can be found at the heart of almost every Human Services profession.
